Gigging with the Isuzu MU-X 4X4 AT
This was my 3rd December period with an Isuzu product, which has had significant impact on how I view the importance of the quality of products they build. The first was with what is now named the D-Max, in bright metallic blue, a 3.0L automated 4X4 double cab. We had an incredible time and created so many cool memories as a family.
The MU-X is one of thee most underrated SUV’s in our trade, despite the reliability credibility of the Isuzu brand it wears with pride, for me it still needs to be afforded the respect it deserves. Out of most cars I have tested and had the pleasure of driving it still tops most that break the million rand mark for several key decision making reasons.
It’s a very capable 4X4 , now with AEton Locker which increases traction on and off road, you can take it anywhere, and it deals with every surface with aplomb and the zest of a toddler. Having taken it through its paces on launch, test days of CarsAwards and general test in urban settings, it has proved its metal.
Towing is easy pickings as I have towed a huge load with furniture to Bloem at one stage. This year I had an unplanned trip for Umgidi to King Williams Town, it handled that trip with the ease kaKofi Annan, despite hauling a fully laden cabin of bags and humans alike, even with the aircon on we still had a great fuel average of just below 10L/100kms, the tank took me to KWT and back with just over 130kms range to spare.
Local driving was bliss, moving from gig to gig, easy to park thanks to superb visibility all-round and parking sensors backed with a rear cam, front sensors would be a great addition though. The ride is quite sublime thanks to the multi-link suspension and thick rubber, so navigating through areas with potholes was stress free.
The MU-X is still a fave, for several key reasons it really does meet all my needs for daily and long term living with ease. That sound system is a bonus especially for being able to decode anything I wanted to listen to, and quality is proper.
It’s proper on so many levels, what was great was showing it to Fortuner owners who were impressed by looks, pricing, and ride quality.
We had a lovely time as a family, Siyabulela!!!
