Premium Experience & Future insights outlaid by VW.
Volkswagen knows quite a bit about softening people up for any type of news they would wanna share, I know this from personal experience, off the record briefings with local media , to their recent escapade which landed us at the fabulous Arrabella Hotel in Hermanus located just outside Cape Town , all this was followed by a drive which involved a few of their premium products ie. Touareg & Tiguan in Black Edition spec, and some Caravelles, Buhle(Arteon) was absent, that bothers me even after we had clarification why she did not make the cut. Lunch was at then exclusive and upmarket Val de Vie estate, as we headed for a late afternoon check in.
Everything was chilled, just the way things should be done, kupholiwe nje maaan even at the braai dinner, which was very well put and executed for a laid back vibe, those lamb chops & oysters were to die for. This was set up next to a crystal clear swimming pool, which would have won the Sizwe Dhlomo pool challenge, Ernest Page can attest, he swam the next day.
1st Quarter 2020
Enough about the luxuries, we discovered that the following day had some work for us that was neatly included as part of the proceedings, the brand intends to do quite a number of various activations, which will make them stronger in the market. For the 1st quarter of this year they intend to have an E Golf on test fleet, this has been spotted in most parts of the country, the purpose of this exercise is get feedback on what it’s like living with an electric vehicles, you must remember just about every brand or rather key brands are looking into eMobility if not already doing the infrastructure even with our “reliable” supplier of power. The 1st Quarter also sees the introduction of the EasyDrive vehicle plans, which will see VW customers having the option to extend service plans and warranties for up to 10Years or 300 000kms. Talk about peace of mind driving, various packages on offer to suit different finance structures and lifestyles. The first quarter will be closed off by the new GTC race car reveal, this will be just before the 3rd Annual Vivo National festival which is held in JHB annually, this year it has an impressive lineup of acts to entertain the thousands that flock to the event.
This period is filled with impressive products introductions, including the Premier of the much anticipated T-Roc, the more powerful T-Cross with 110kw from a 1.4T engine, the 70kw 3potter T-Cross will also go on sale, the one which most enthusiasts are looking forward to is the limited edition Golf Gti TCR, this is meant to close the current generation Golf chapter, talk about going out with a bang!!! I am keen on the intro of the WE go Connect, a plug and play system linked to your smartfone for easier management, this has a lot of benefits, like 24hr roadside assistance, trip monitor that will make doing your log book much easier , and manage service appointments, to mention but a few….NJE!!!
IQ Drive will be introduced, driver assisted systems which will lead to full automation in due course (Front Assist, Lane assist, Rear Traffic Alert and adaptive cruise control) , that wonderful Touareg Sabattical competition will run again, the half way mark of 2020 sees us with the launch of a proudly South African POLO Vivo. The T-Roc launches just as the 3rd quarter comes to an end.
The does not offer much but the ID.3 Fleet, which add to the electric mobility activation for the German brand , the 1st quarter of 2021 brings forth the most anticipated launch , the Golf 8, we have seen what it will look like as Geneva is taking place as I pen this, albeit online and streaming reveals. The Tiguan facelift will also blossom into fruition around about this time.
VW has it on lock, and am quite excited about the prospect of WE Connect, wishing them all the success in 2020. The Easy Drive plans should be most beneficial and allow us insight into the lifespan of the smaller capacity engines beyond 100 000kms, in terms of products, they have enough to keep their customers watering at the mouth.
Thanks for an awesome time at Arrabella and the Western Cape with all its luxurious glory.
Yours in motoring
