Upgrading the Champ- Isuzu D-Max X-Rider Crew Cab 3.0TD AT & Ext Cab AT

The D-max has gone through a lifetime of continuous upgrades that have seen the entire portfolio maintain relevance in a tough market, these developments have led to one of the toughest, good looking , and one of thee most reliable bakkies on our local market.

Extended Cab Auto

For some reason I had never seen this derivation, the X-rider was always pre dominantly known for the double cab of great value, in this case they have added a 5 speed automatic gearbox, which makes the drive smoother, the gearbox is also shared by the double cab which I had no qualms with. In fact the white unit I had was one of the 1st ones made and it was a good drive even on mild loose gravel roads just outside Amanzi Estate farms. The fuel consumption remains impressive even with some performance sprints to size up the pairing of the box to the trusted 100kw 320nm 2.5L Turbo diesel engine, it works and does so quite well. The specification is as decent and well placed as expected in this winning formula.

Power will always be a cherry on top for any bakkie, to have 130kw and 380nm of torque on a 4X2 double cab is quite neat and fun, add a 6 speed gearbox and you may just as well add a lifestyle change over, from 100kw to 130kw, from 320nm to 380nm, the improvement is significantly notable, this does not make the X-Rider heavy on fuel as my stint achieved a 700kms on the tank. The are some mild notes to set the new 3.0 X-Rider apart, bigger badges on the side and at the back, a reversing camera which found I pretty much not that useful without sensors, a bigger touch screen with USB , and smartfone connectivity. Leather seats all round and X markings on gloss black door panels round off a sporty interior.

It’s a great buy, gets my nod for value and superb combination of fun, practicality and all round capabilities.
